Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for health care, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
